Gratitude

"When We bestow favours on man, he turns away, and gets himself remote on his side (instead of coming to Us); and when evil seizes him, (he comes) full of prolonged prayer!"
[The Noble Qur'an 39:8]

Dare I ask
why the child
when brought a toy
loses himself in its joy
and forgets to thank
the one who brought it?
His heart at times tender and vigilant
remembering its Lord attempting its share of due diligence
and at times aloof of what surrounds it
be among those whose lives teach them gratitude

they need not affliction
to stir them into remembrance
they are grateful always
from dawn until dusk
saying

O Allah no more affliction needs this man
to learn his lessons in due course of time
Glorified are You, the One and Only
Grant me guidance, steadfastness and gratitude

Were I to learn by my mistakes throughout
my life would be a loss
but i have learnt to take risks calculated
and give up my life cavalier
i have begun to care, to think outside of myself
and comprehend,
there's more to living than
"I"

Walk the road to Paradise
The road of dependence on Him
Freedom of the self
And gratitude for what you have
Now is all you have left

Grow up.
